The RNC say a shelter-in-place in the Crosbie Road area of St. John’s Thursday night was related to the shooting on Ropewalk Lane earlier in the day, and that two people are now in custody.

Police first responded to the area of the Burger King on Ropewalk Lane just after 2:30 Thursday morning where they found a 40-year-old man who was seriously injured.

A suspect vehicle fled the area before police arrived.

Throughout the rest of the day the RNC received numerous reports of erratic driving and hit-and-run collisions involving a pickup truck matching the description of the one seen leaving the area after the shooting.

Officers located the suspect vehicle on Cashin Avenue just after 10 p.m. but it failed to stop, leading to a short pursuit that had to be abandoned for safety reasons.
