ANN ARBOR, MI – Michigan Medicine accidentally sent postcards containing limited private health information to over 1,000 recipients without using envelopes, according to a news release from the organization.
Anyone who saw the postcard could have seen the sensitive details that were meant to be private, according to Michigan Medicine.
The postcards were sent out on June 27, 2025, in a Michigan Medicine research study in an attempt to recruit participants.
The research study staff stopped sending postcards to additional potential study participants when it was made aware of the error, according to the release.
The University of Michigan’s Institutional Review Board determined that a panel responsible for human subjects research oversight mistakenly approved the postcard’s use, accordi
