PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A new swim safety program called Safe Swim Berkshires has been launched at the Pittsfield YMCA following the drowning of a 12-year-old girl, Giver Essien, last year.

The program was co-founded by Linda Dulye and Jennifer Roccabruna in response to the incident, aiming to equip children with essential swimming skills and safety knowledge.

The initiative focuses on teaching children how to navigate water environments safely, addressing a critical need highlighted by the unfortunate event.

"No doubt that something needed to be done. That tragedy had to be turned into action," said Linda Dulye, co-founder of the program.
