WASHINGTON — Dozens of demonstrators gathered outside D.C. Police headquarters Friday, protesting what they call a federal overreach in the wake of U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi’s appointment of the DEA administrator as Washington’s "emergency police commissioner."

Chanting and holding signs demanding local control, protesters rallied in Judiciary Square, calling the move authoritarian and a violation of D.C.’s autonomy.

“This is not within the standard deviation of what a government and a democracy looks like — this is now authoritarian,” said Jeralyn Cave, a resident who joined the protest. “We need to demand our political leaders stand up and refuse to cooperate with unlawful actions.”
