NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A woman died after being sexually assaulted while unconscious on the steps of a church in South Nashville Thursday night, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

According to MNPD, a Nashville Fire Department crew was driving past the church around 9:30 p.m. when firefighters witnessed a man assaulting the woman. They immediately intervened, and the woman was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
