ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Nine local McDonald's restaurants are hosting free backpack giveaways this weekend to help ease the financial burden on parents during the back-to-school season.

Approximately 7,000 backpacks filled with essential school supplies will be distributed at these events, providing much-needed support to families in the community.

"Community is super important for us, the kids are important and if we can provide them a way to go to school and feel confident, those are the future leaders of our community and we want them start their school year feeling prepared," said Mari Potter, one of the owner/operators of McDonald's involved in the giveaway.
