ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — As the new school year approaches, experts emphasize the importance of adjusting children's sleep schedules to ensure they get adequate rest.

After a summer of relaxed schedules, gradually recalibrating bedtime is crucial for children to be ready for school. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine provides guidelines on the amount of sleep children need, based on their age.

Preschoolers require up to 13 hours of sleep per day, including naps. Children ages six to 12 should aim for nine to 12 hours of sleep, while teenagers benefit from 8 to 10 hours of sleep per night.
