D.C., DC — It has been five days since the federalization of the DC Police , and feelings are split among locals and visitors as to whether the changes have made them feel safer and more secure.

Some residents, like Gurtej Narang, said simply seeing the blue lights of police can deter crime.

"It's nice to see the presence, at least discourage hooligan activity,” said Narang. "You walk around Dupont Circle, say anytime past 9:30 when the sun goes down, there's always some sort of ruckus going on. We walked around after dinner last night, and just to see the police presence, it's way more calm, and just a safer environment."

Others, like Howard University student Jason Sharp, said the increase in law enforcement has made him feel less safe.
