Esiyah Dixon-Waheed, a former teen pageant queen and choir singer, died on July 24. She was 26.
Her mother, Mahasin Waheed-Parker, said her daughter was killed after being hit in a head-on collision while on a church retreat in Missouri.
“It’s a huge loss, we all feel it,” said Ronsha Dickerson, 48, who knew Dixon-Waheed through the Unity Community Center’s where she took karate and dance classes.
Dixon-Waheed was known by Camden residents for her community engagement which ranged from hosting a Christmas food drive to participating in the pageant for Miss Camden Teen, her mother said.
After Dixon-Waheed graduated from Camden’s Creative Arts High School, she went to Wiley University in Texas on a scholarship, where she sang in the choir, her mother said.
