BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — As the new school year approaches, students and families are gearing up to trade carefree summer habits for structured routines.

There are a number of ways for parents to get their kids prepared for a healthy start to the school year.

This can include implementing healthy foods back into their diet, getting them to bed early, and setting aside time for them to get homework done, go outside, and simply checking in with you.

"So, transitioning back to school, obviously means kids are going to have to wake up a bit earlier," says Sara Kapp, the behavioral health administrator for Health and Human Services.
