A Kingman inmate sentenced to natural life in prison for a brutal murder committed 20 years ago has died in custody. The Arizona Department of Corrections reports the August 5 death of Raymond Carlton, 43, at ASPC-Lewis.The Department of Corrections said Carlton’s death was under investigation, but provided no details and did not respond to inquiry regarding if it was suspected to be of natural causes, a suicide or a homicide. Retired Mohave County Superior Court Judge Steve Conn in 2006 imposed a natural life prison term for trial convictions for first-degree murder, aggravated assault and misconduct involving weapons.
