STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A man who allegedly displayed a firearm at a business and during a subsequent encounter with two off-duty police officers on a nearby street in Great Kills was fatally shot by one of the cops, according to a law-enforcement source.
The 44-year-old man was struck several times in a police-involved shooting on William Avenue near Hylan Boulevard around 8:20 p.m., the NYPD said.
The encounter prompted a massive NYPD response.
The man allegedly menaced customers at a nearby business on Hylan Boulevard, then made his way up William Avenue, the law-enforcement source told the Advance/SILive.com.
There, he encountered two off-duty officers and allegedly displayed the firearm, the source said.
