INDIANAPOLIS — A school on the northeast side is celebrating the opening of a new space for students.

It's all thanks to a partnership between Indianapolis Public Schools and the Big Ten Conference.

Leaders from James Russell Lowell School 51 and IPS officials joined kids to cut the ribbon Friday a new basketball and pickleball court.

The partnership is hoping to promote school pride and physical wellness, as well as introduce students to higher education.

School officials say it provides opportunities for the students.

"It's a space where friendships will grow skills will sharpen and laughter will echo and every child can find their place to shine and take a chance on trying something new," said principal Christine Rembert.
