HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Go through a Hawaii high school football record book and it won’t take long to find Vavae Malepeai.

During his time at Mililani, the running back was a constant highlight reel and helped lead the Trojans to their first state title in 2014.

He finished his prep career as one of Hawaii’s all-time leading rushers before playing collegiately at the University of Southern California.

After a short-stint trying to break into the NFL, Malepeai turned to coaching.

He’s currently in his third season as an offensive quality control analyst for Stanford and is set to return home when the Cardinals face Hawaii on Aug. 23.
