HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The soldier who allegedly shot a man on U.S. Navy property in Wahiawa Saturday is being returned to his unit.
The unidentified suspect was in the custody of military police after he allegedly shot Devaughn Pita, 23.
Pita’s mother said he was attacked because he was trying to help his ex-girlfriend escape an abusive relationship with the suspect.

The Army said the suspect will remain in the custody of his unit, the 25th Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade, until the next phase of the investigation.
The Army’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is leading the investigation in the case.
