Fate dealt Huntsville, Alabama’s inaugural South Star Music Festival bad cards.
First, Jane’s Addiction, the legendary alt-rockers who were one of the festival’s most anticipated acts, broke up two weeks before South Star, after an onstage altercation between the band’s singer and guitarist .
Week of the ’90s nostalgia-themed fest, South Star’s site, John Hunt Park, endured heavy rain and strong winds, ripple effects of Hurricane Helen. The Sept. 28 opening day’s start time was pushed back , canceling performances by the lineup’s handful of rising bands , including the lone local booking, soul-rock talents Billy Allen + The Pollies .
Despite muddy conditions and intermittent rain, an estimated 17,000 or so fans turned up to experience memorable sets by the likes of pop star G
