Faith Community Wesleyan Church in Chattanooga was hit hard by severe flooding earlier this week. The church's new leaders, Alex and Katie Lawrence, were inside the building when rushing water started to come in from the doors. In a matter of moments, the Lawrence's became trapped inside.
"I was slamming into the door, trying to get it open against three feet of water... We did end up getting out. I had to put an umbrella through the door and was able to pry it open," said Alex Lawrence, the Pastor of Faith Community Wesleyan Church.
The main floor of the church was underwater for hours. Damaging walls, electrical sockets, and furniture. As of Friday, community members have come together to start cleaning up.
