SALT LAKE CITY — Miles of dead fish were spotted in the Jordan River near 1500 North in Lehi Friday morning.

John Mackey, director of the Division of Water Quality , said there were about 50 of them in the area.

Mackey is still unsure of the exact cause, but he said warm water or harmful algal blooms are likely. They will know more in a couple of days when the testing results are ready.

Experts say toxic algal blooms can make both humans and animals very sick if exposed to them, and it’s best to just stay away.
