CHEYENNE – A C-130 Hercules aircraft assigned to Wyoming Air National Guard’s 153rd Airlift Wing was activated to support firefighting operations across the western United States this past weekend.

This aircraft is equipped with Modular Airborne Firefighting System (MAFFS) and crewed by airmen specifically trained to fight wildfires. This aircraft is currently positioned at Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa, Arizona, along with another C-130 from the California Air National Guard’s 146th Airlift Wing.

Since the beginning of the activation, MAFFS 3 has flown a total of nine sorties and performed nine drops totaling 25,421 gallons of fire suppressant on fires in Arizona near Payson and Sedona, and on fires in New Mexico near Mayberry and Albuquerque.
