MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Tennessee sent a letter to Mason, Tennessee officials, urging them to immediately block all actions and contracts with CoreCivic and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Friday morning's letter from the ACLU comes after Mason Aldermen voted 4-1-2 in favor of a contract with CoreCivic and 3-2-2 on a contract with ICE, moving forward a proposal to reopen the West Tennessee Detention Facility (WTDF) as an immigration detention facility .

The decision was met with outrage from the public, with criticism of the facility centering around CoreCivic's private structure as well as recent reports of ICE activity throughout the Mid-South and the country.
