SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Powell's Landing in Sacramento opened its doors Friday as a transitional housing facility, helping individuals move from homelessness to permanent housing.

The former hotel off of Howe Avenue offers 69 units along with essential services.

Joseph Smith from Hope Cooperative explained that the facility offers behavioral health services, substance use disorder treatment, and training to help build life skills.

Ultimately, the goal, Smith says, is to ensure they become part of a community that is safe, quiet and secure.

"A place they can be proud of," he said.
