NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Newport News police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Saturday morning.

The shooting happened in the first block of Poplar Avenue at about 7:09 a.m. That's between Kecoughtan Road and 19th Street.

They found an adult male had suffered a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police believe the homicide is domestic in nature, and they are not currently looking for suspects, according to a press release from the Newport News Police Department.
