STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Jimmy Max Ballbusters are on a roll.
The team, which first originated in 1986, followed its 2024 fall title in the James and Jo Ann Tabeek League with a summer banner in the same loop.
That brings the total number of titles to six for the Ballbusters in the Tabeek. They also won in 1994, 1995, 2014 and 2016.
This time around, the Ballbusters, managed by Vinny Cavalieri, swept the Ducks 10-3 and 13-5 to avenge last summer’s championship loss.
“Defense, pitching and timely hitting were the key,” said player Rodd Bray, one of the original team members. “The Ballbusters started playing softball in 1986. Now, 40 years later, the young kids on our team will carry on the Ballbusters legacy.”
