DANVILLE, Indiana — A driver was arrested on preliminary charges including OWI after allegedly rear-ending a Danville police officer Friday afternoon.
The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Aug. 15 as the officer was traveling west on East County Road 100 North, approaching North County Road 200 East .
Just before the crash, the officer "observed the vehicle behind him failing to maintain its lane and was preparing to position his patrol vehicle to initiate a traffic stop," the Danville Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement . Before that happened, the car struck the officer's patrol vehicle from behind.
The department said responding officers "observed clear indicators of intoxication in the driver, including impaired coordination, slurred speech, and the odor of alcohol."
