VANDERBURGH, Ind. (WFIE) - It’s more than just a training facility.

It’s a lasting tribute to a man who believed in the power of service and sacrifice.

“Dedicated in honor of Mr. Joe Sells, who passed away about a year and a half ago before he could see this field come into fruition,” Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson said. “Now this field is a fitting tribute to him. It will stand as a permanent memorial for his contributions to the sheriff’s office and our K9 program.”

Joe Sells was the founder of Oliver’s Heroes, a nonprofit organization created to help alleviate the medical expenses of current and former police dogs.

Officials say Sell’s commitment to the lives of police dogs live on through the facility, where current and future K9 teams will train and thrive.
