ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WDBJ) - Friends and family gathered at the Pigg River Community Center to celebrate the life of Joey Lee Callaway , a Franklin County native who passed away earlier in August after a crash involving a Franklin County deputy.

Callaway was remembered as a state wrestling champion in 1988, an electrician, and an avid fisherman. Loved ones say his faith, humility, and kindness made him stand out.

“Joey was a fighter on the mat and now he is a fighter for the Lord. I will miss my friend and I will miss talking to him,” classmate Cliff Coger said.
