MINNEAPOLIS — Uptown’s twist on a music festival brings bands to your front porch.
For four hours, more than 80 bands played on more than 30 different porches.
“Obviously there are a lot of great porches in Uptown and after a few years I felt like I knew enough people and I was like I think it’s time for a Porchfest in Uptown,” said Lisa Martelly.
Martelly is one of the event's original founders. When she lived in Boston, she saw neighbors come together for this event and wanted to bring that same culture to Minneapolis.
But getting a band to play on people’s front porch isn’t an easy task.
“Honestly, people are reluctant, like they don’t know what to expect,” she said. “Once people enter into the fray they're like, this was amazing, I want to do it every year.”
