BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — Dozens of remote control aircrafts took to the skies Saturday at the Grassfield Radio Control Club airfield, celebrating National Model Aviation Day and helping raise funds for the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA).

The event, held at 8901 101st Ave N near Highway 169, drew both seasoned hobbyists and curious newcomers, despite a stormy morning.

Organizers waited for thunder and lightning to pass before beginning a series of jet-powered and scale model demonstrations.

Pilots took turns on the runway with their lifelike aircraft.

Charly Skalbeck, president of the Grassfield RC Club, took his model plane out for a flight, but it unfortunately ended in a 'Walk of Shame.' His plane landed in the pumpkin patch nearby in a crash.
