Hurricane Erin should remain a few hundred miles off the East Coast, but Baltimore and the surrounding region are still predicted to feel its effects.

Life-threatening rip currents and high surf should impact much of the Atlantic shoreline through the end of the week, according to the National Weather Service .

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for coastal waters, including Ocean City , where the risk of rip currents is high. Beach and dune erosion is expected through Thursday as the storm tracks offshore.

At Assateague State Park , officials have issued double red flag conditions, meaning all ocean access is prohibited, including swimming, surfing, wading and other water activities. The beach remains open for now but could close
