A Surrey family’s 18-month battle to get accountability after their “kind and gentle” daughter’s suicide is ramping up.

Felicity Donovan, 16, was found unresponsive in her bedroom on Dec. 19, 2023, and died two days later. The Surrey teen had been receiving support from Fraser Health and her school counsellor after a suicide attempt and for suicidal ideation.

But a Dec. 13 appointment with Fraser Health’s short term assessment response treatment program, or START, was cancelled and Felicity was not offered an alternative date.

Since her death, parents Laura and David Donovan have been trying to find answers and hold the institutions they believe responsible to account.
