DANDRIDGE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said the body of a missing boater was recovered in Douglas Lake, marking the seventeenth boating-related fatality in the state so far this year.
On Sunday, around 4:30 p.m., 44-year-old Yoser G. Rojas Valverde went missing in the area of Indian Creek after entering the water from a pontoon boat. Witnesses told the TWRA he struggled to stay afloat, went under and didn't resurface.
On Monday, TWRA officers found Rojas Valverde’s body using a Remote Operated Vehicle or a ROV. Carter County Rescue Squad divers recovered his body around 11:35 a.m., the TWRA said.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office first reported the drowning on Sunday afternoon, with the incident remaining under investigation by them and the TWRA.
