Hurricane Erin is expected to bring life-threatening surf and rip currents across the U.S. eastern seaboard this week, according to the National Hurricane Center.
It is now a Category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph.
This is the first hurricane of the 2025 season in the Atlantic.
As of 5 a.m., Erin was located about 130 miles east northeast of Grand Turk Island and has a minimum central pressure of 945 mb.
Heavy rainfall is forecast for parts of Hispaniola on Monday, continuing into Tuesday for the Turks and Caicos and sections of the southeastern and central Bahamas.
Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches, with isolated totals of 6 inches, are expected.
Additional strengthening is expected over the next 12 hours, followed by a gradual decline, according to the NHC.
