HALIFAX COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A train derailed North of Enfield Sunday, according to the town mayor.

Enfield Mayor Mondale Robinson posted to Facebook Sunday night, stating that the train crash happened outside the city limits near the Binderholz work site.

He said the last update he had from county officials was that the cargo was coal and that there were no injuries.

He also said, he was told that none of the waterways near Enfield were in jeopardy and no toxic chemicals were involved in the crash.

Multiple train routes were either canceled or delayed by the derailment, according to Amtrak.
