Scattered afternoon storms will return to eastern NC Monday , but it will not be a washout. Hit and miss storms will dot the radar from 2pm to 6pm with pockets of heavy rain. Highs will reach the low 90s with the heat index reaching near 101°.

We’ll continue to pop a few afternoon storms both Tuesday to Wednesday as well with afternoon highs in the upper 80s both days. Along with the rain chances, breezy winds from the north-northeast are expected from 10 to 20 mph, with the beaches gusting over 30 mph on Wednesday into Wednesday night.

As Erin passes along the Atlantic mid-to-late week, large waves and beach erosion will need to be watched. Highway 12 may be impossible at times, as overwash will likely occur at times.
