Thousands of no-fault evictions carried out by county court bailiffs occurred across London during Labour's first 12 months in Government, according to new data. The party has committed to abolishing no-fault evictions through its Renters' Rights Bill, which is currently in its final parliamentary stages.

Shelter described it as "unconscionable" that tenants "continue to be marched out of their homes by bailiffs" a year after Labour assumed power. Ministry of Justice statistics revealed there were 4,725 repossessions executed by county court bailiffs following a Section 21 notice – recognised as a no-fault eviction – in the year to June.

Throughout England and Wales, 11,555 such repossessions occurred over the past year – representing a 6 per cent increase from the previous year.
