BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE) — The Mount Hope Bridge is back open to traffic Monday morning, well ahead of schedule.

The bridge was shut down Thursday night for road resurfacing.

However, the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority announced that work was completed by Saturday night, more than 33 hours ahead of schedule.

The bridge was originally supposed to be reopened at this hour.

RITBA expects the new surfacing to last until 2030.

RITBA also said more bridge work is in the future, as they plan for a “re-decking” project, which was last done in 1985.
