LAKE LURE, N.C. — Demolition for the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge begins Monday.
Rutherford County officials announced that the popular attraction needed to be taken down due to significant structural damage from Hurricane Helene. The Town of Lake Lure first announced in June .
"After thorough assessments by two independent engineering firms, it was determined that the bridge is beyond repair and cannot be restored," wrote the town.
Lake Lure Flowering Bridge officials said they will be trying to salvage balustrades, plants and artifacts to use in future gardens.
The pedestrian bridge was one of the many attractions on the garden’s grounds that were destroyed by Helene, including the Rainbow Bridge that honored pets .
"We are heartbroken at the loss of the Flowering Bridge, but we are n
