Pedestrian injured by overloaded truck

A 32-year-old woman was injured when a semi-trailer truck with an oversized load struck her as she was walking alongside U.S. 231, according to the Jasper County Sheriff's Department.

Police said they were called out around 9:12 a.m. Friday to the area just south of County Road 1050 South where they located the injured Rensselaer woman.

She was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Police learned a truck with an oversized load extending more than 4 feet on either side was northbound on the U.S. 231 when the driver saw the pedestrian walking northbound along the east side of the highway.

"(The driver) further stated that he was unable to maneuver his vehicle to the west side of the roadway to avoid striking (the woman) due to oncoming southbound traffic," police said.
