While hurricane Erin has drawn national attention as it tracks northwest offshore of the East Coast, it will have minimal impact in North Carolina, the National Weather Service said on Monday.
“The center of the storm will remain several hundred miles southeast of Cape Hatteras when it is at its closest point … even the coastal plain, there could be a shower and a little bit of a breeze, but impacts there will be minimal,” said Jonathan Blaze, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Raleigh.
There are concerns about strong winds and considerable wave action and surf in the Outer Banks from late Wednesday night to Thursday morning, which could spread over dunes and interfere with some roads. But for most of North Carolina, the impact will be negligible, he said.
