ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Ahead of his campaign kickoff to become Georgia’s next U.S. senator, U.S. Rep. Mike Collins has received the endorsement of the family of Laken Riley.

Riley was a 22-year-old Augusta University nursing student who was killed more than a year ago by Jose Ibarra , a Venezuelan immigrant who was in the U.S. illegally. Ibarra was convicted in connection to her death and sentenced to life in prison in November 2024. Her death became a lightning rod in the 2024 presidential election that saw former president Donald Trump make an unprecedented return to the White House to become the nation’s 47th president.
