ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A 5-year-old boy died after accidentally shooting himself in the head at a Spalding County storage facility on Sunday, according to Griffin police.
Police said they were called to a storage facility in the 700 block of Carver Road in Griffin, where they found the injured child.
Police and Spalding County sheriff’s deputies performed life-saving measures until Wellstar EMS and Griffin Fire arrived, but the boy died of his injuries.
Investigators learned the child had found an “unsecured firearm” when he was left unsupervised in a vehicle. He fired the gun, “tragically resulting in his death.”
Police said Chase Desselle, 27, of Hampton, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.
