ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A new park in Vinings will honor a beloved Cobb County artist.

The nonprofit Cobb Landmarks and Historical Society announced Monday that it had secured funding to create a new “pocket park” honoring the legacy of celebrated Black folk artist Nellie Mae Rowe.

Located at the former site of Rowe’s home, the park “will serve as a tribute to her life and artistic vision,” according to the nonprofit, which is dedicated to preserving historic and cultural resources in the county.

Born in Fayetteville in 1900, Rowe was a self-taught artist “whose vivid, imaginative work captured the rhythms of her life and her deep connection to her surroundings.”
