NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Crews with the Niskayuna Fire District (NFD) responded to a house fire on Sunday night. The fire broke out at a home on the 1400 block of Baker Avenue.
Firefighters arriving to the two-story bungalow around 10:30 p.m. were met with heavy flames rising nearly 15 feet above the building's back roofline. The fire additionally damaged the houses surrounding the initial home, but responders were able to limit the spread and brought the blaze under control within 45 minutes.
The house's occupants, two adults and two small children, escaped unharmed after the home's smoke alarms activated. Niskayuna Fire Chief James Vena confirmed that a cat in the residence died as a result of the fire.
