Boston has recorded 24 homicides so far this year, tying the number of violent deaths in all of 2024, when the city’s murder rate dropped to its lowest level in nearly seven decades.

Statistics from Boston police show there were 24 homicides in the city as of Aug. 13, compared to just 12 by the same date last year. (Three deaths included in the 2025 totals were not ruled homicides until recently, though the victims were killed in prior years.)
