BETHESDA, Md. — Firefighters in Montgomery County say a man is in the hospital after crews pulled him from a burning home in Bethesda. Fire department spokesperson David Pazos said the man has serious, life-threatening injuries.

A neighbor saw smoke and called 911 around 11:10 a.m. to the home in the 4800 block of Broad Brook Drive in Bethesda. When crews arrived on scene, they found flames showing from the living room and garage area.

Neighbors told firefighters on scene that the homeowner, described as elderly, was still inside the home. Crews quickly searched the home, and brought the man to safety.

Investigators determined the fire was caused accidentally by an unattended microwave. It started in the kitchen. Two adults have been displaced.
