COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Florida wildlife officials are searching for an alligator that bit a woman while she was hiking.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission received a report of a woman who was bitten on the leg and arm while hiking in Collier County. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment, while an alligator trapper was dispatched to the area.

Serious injuries caused by the reptiles are rare in the state, officials said in a statement.
