Two U.S. tourists died in separate drowning incidents last Friday at Carnival Cruise Line’s newly opened Celebration Key resort in the Bahamas, CBS News reports.
The victims, a 79-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman, were both passengers on Carnival cruise ships that had sailed to Grand Bahama Island, according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force and Carnival representatives.
“Police responded to the first emergency before noon after officers were alerted to an unresponsive 79-year-old man aboard a commercial ship at the resort,” a news release said. Initial reports indicate the man lost consciousness while snorkeling at one of the resort’s beaches.
A lifeguard pulled him from the water and attempted CPR, but he was later pronounced dead by a doctor.
