ATHENS – The 42nd Cornfest, a signature festival in Athens, returned on Saturday after a one-year absence.

The popular event, with its pledge to be always free, was reconfigured with its new home situated at Centennial Park, Centre 76, and the north end of Henry Street.

“Last year we didn’t have the volunteers needed to launch Cornfest,” said Linda Ross, an Athens Cornfest committee member.

The idea that Cornfest would be a thing of the past was unacceptable to members of the community, and a new group of volunteers undertook the task of reviving the much-loved event.

Known for its family-friendly popular kids’ activities, the event included a bouncy castle, a climbing wall, a paddle boat pool, pony rides and a petting zoo, all readily seen entering the grounds.
