MONTZ, La. (WGNO) — St. Charles Parish will celebrate the start of construction on the first permanent pump stations in Montz on Friday, Aug. 22.

According to St. Charles Parish officials, the two stations are a more than $32 million investment in drainage and flood protection, with $10 million of that funding provided by the Louisiana Coastal Restoration Authority.

Officials said Montz residents have not had the protection of a permanent pump station. The new stations will be integrated into the East Bank West Shore Hurricane Protection Levee System. They said this will offer relief to over 800 homes, 25 industrial facilities, an electrical power plant, a church and a fire station.

Once both stations are complete, Montz's pumping capacity will increase by 3.5 times its current capacity
