MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – With students returning to classrooms across Monongalia County, the Sheriff’s Office is urging drivers to exercise extra caution in school zones and around buses.

Deputies are reminding motorists to watch for children walking to and from school, obey posted school zone speed limits, and never pass a bus that is stopped to load or unload children.

Drivers should also avoid passing vehicles stopped at crosswalks, remain attentive to school crossing guards, and eliminate distractions while driving near schools.

The Sheriff’s Office also emphasized the importance of understanding school bus safety lights. Flashing yellow lights mean a bus is preparing to stop and drivers should slow down.
